Judge Joel Cohen has reserved its decision in relation to the investigation of the exchange Bitfinex and the company Tether initiated by the Prosecutor’s office in new York, and continued the examination for another 90 days. The judge said after a 90-day extension will be assigned another date for further consideration.

At the hearing, counsel iFinex, the parent company Bitfinex and Tether, said that the company serves customers in new York (in accordance with the terms of service), therefore is not subject to the jurisdiction of the Prosecutor’s office.

However iFinex recognizes that enforcement of these conditions is not perfect and users from new York, contrary to the prohibition to trade on the platform, but the exchange is working hard to identify and block such users. An earlier edition of the Block wrote about how the user created an account with the name IAmANYResident. He just pointed out that is not a U.S. resident and was able to trade on the platform, despite the fact that the exchange saw the IP address in new York.

Recall that in late April, the new York district attorney announced that the cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex has lost $850 million and subsequently used stablon USDT company Tether to hide the fact of these losses.
